njdep_letter_to_njng_re_dewater_22.nov.2016.pdf |
This letter (above) addresses deficiencies in permits we thought were already granted. It seems the force of our opposition and the level of concern and scrutiny from the public has led the NJDEP to make sure all the permits are in full compliance. While encouraging, we must keep up the pressure because often these requests are crafted to ensure the permits are able to withstand lawsuits. In other words, the NJDEP is more than likely covering its butt.
And other news for our cause:
On August 29, 2016, NJNGas withdrew the Flood Hazard Application for the SRL pipeline route.
On September 12, 2016 NJNGas submitted a new application for a Flood Hazard Applicability Determination.
On September 16, 2016 the NJ DEP issued a determination-- that no formal authorization for the proposed project is required under Flood Hazard rules.
The letter of application explains why they resubmitted... To fall under the new less strict regulations. Should be illegal. We need to do a good timeline of the deceitful steps taken by both the industry and government and send it to anyone who could help us.
The document outlining the applicability & determination is below as well as
the NJ State Agricultural Development Committee review of the NJNG/SRL project:

Thank you for your support against the pipeline and compressor station.
As you may know, Transcontinental Pipeline Company (Transco) is proposing to construct a compressor station at 14 Bordentown-Chesterfield Road that will link the planned extension of a current Transco pipeline (Woodbury Lateral) to the proposed New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) Southern Reliability Link (SRL) Pipeline.
Compressor stations emit toxic chemicals and generate high noise levels. Compressors and pipelines both run the constant risk of leaks and explosions and put the health and safety of our communities at risk.
The Burlington County Freeholders have the power to put a stop to this project by denying road opening permits to NJNG, but up to this point they have been unresponsive to, if not dismissive of, the concerns of the residents. They are 100% supportive of the pipeline, despite NJNG's inability to articulate a clear need for the SRL pipeline.
Please send an email to the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholdersoffice asking that they oppose the SRL pipeline in its entirety -- including the compressor station -- and reject any NJNG road opening permit requests.
Emails should be sent to: Bruce Garganio, Freeholder Director [[email protected] ]
Please act before this deadline: Wednesday, February 24th, noon.
This pipeline is moving quickly through the approval process. The next Freeholder’s meeting is on Wednesday, February 24th. We want them to know that opposition is growing in our communities, and we want them to "Put People First"!

COMMENTS NEEDED! This hearing will give the public an opportunity to oppose the permit needed for dewatering the site (taking water out of the ground so they can build). If you are familiar with this process, if you are concerned about adverse impacts on water (many folks rely on well water including local farmers), or if you are passionate about the wildlife and the environment, please make a PUBLIC COMMENT at the hearing. This is a very important permit that is needed and it would be helpful for as many people as possible to voice their concerns at the hearing. If you are unable to speak, please still attend to show support. Bring kids if needed. You may also send WRITTEN COMMENTS to the NJDEP prior to May 3rd. We only may have a few more chances to oppose this, and this is a big one! Here is the PUBLIC NOTICE with more information:

Guidance Sheets with Statues for Reference...
Excellent examples of hearing comments below (includes actual comments from residents) and a guidance sheet with statues for reference. Remember, even though the scope of this hearing is about the Dewatering Permit, the permit by statue is required to be in the PUBLIC INTEREST, and that's a broad mandate that can include a lot of topics. What do YOU see as the effect on you and your community? Just try to connect it back to at least one point in the guidance document.
