Take Action Checklist
What Can YOU Do to Help STOP
the Pipeline and the Compressor Station in Chesterfield?
Both projects need to go through a multitude of approvals and procedures. Neither have been approved yet. Below are the actions you take to voice your opposition. If we all work together we have the power to save our towns!

● 1. Review the Materials
Many documents, maps, petitions, letters and more have been posted on the Responsible-Pipeline.com Web site, our Facebook page and the Chesterfield Nextdoor.com site. Take the time to read through to get a better understanding of what is going on. It is important to understand that this is still only being proposed. It has not been approved. There are many “choke points” that can stop this thing but we ALL need to help submit information to make sure all agencies are aware of all the possible issues with doing these projects. There are also many groups fighting this with us like the NJ chapter of the Sierra Club and Food & Water Watch, as well as other neighborhoods along the route. Stay updated on current initiatives on our Home Page.
● 2. Join the NJNG Pipeline Google Group
For anyone who wants to join the fight to STOP the pipeline and compressor station please join the NJNG Pipeline Forum (online through Google Groups). Group members include environmental groups fighting this as well as 100+ residents from Bordentown, Chesterfield, North Hanover, Upper Freehold, Plumsted and Manchester along the pipeline route. Members are sharing letters, documents, meeting information and ideas. Please email [email protected] and ask to join.
NOTE: After approval you must go into your settings and set email notifications. You can choose to have an email for every comment (not recommended) or only a daily summary (recommended). You can also have no email notifications and just check the google group site directly (similar to checking an email server).
● 3. Tell Your Neighbors (and Your Virtual Neighbors)
They may not know about it! Bring it up when you see them. If you are on Facebook, go the Responsible-Pipeline Facebook page, click on "Suggest to Friends", select all your neighbor friends and then click the "Send Invitations" button. If you are on Twitter, send out a tweet and reference @responsible-pipeline when you do. Post a sign on your lawn and hand out flyers too. These materials can be printed and ordered through Responsible-Pipeline.com. Click here for a printable Take Action checklist (the items on this page)
● 4. Attend Meetings, Special Events and Conference Calls
Check our Calendar of Events to see what is happening next. It is important to have a presence at local government meetings, learn about the effects on our environment and join together with our neighbors so that we can fight this together. So far there has been the initial hearing for the BPU regarding the pipeline. There are still hearings for FERC regarding the compressor station. Once you register with Ferc.gov you will also receive notices on any hearings regarding the compressor station. Check our Calendar frequently for updates.

● 5. SEND LETTERS!
WE are the ones who know our town, our historical landmarks, our schools, our families and our environment. WE need to write to ALL of these agencies to let them know why we oppose this. There are so many hoops that the gas companies have to gothrough to get this approved--water quality, proximity to historic sites, preserved land, environmental issues, the air force base involvement and the protected pinelands issues. YOU may have key information that your neighbors don’t. Please send as many letters as you can.

● 6. Pressure Our Local Government
Convince our town and county governments to pass ordinances prohibiting New Jersey Natural Gas from surveying on town/county land. Attend town and county meetings and get as many people there as possible. Sign the petitions and send letters. The more people behind an issue, the more likely they will listen! As many people as possible need to attend Town Council meetings and contact our Town Representatives. The County owns the roadways. The Burlington County Freeholders have the ability to take action (impose strict/expensive permit requirement and ordinances, etc) so we need to demand that they act aggressively towards stopping this project. See our Calendar for a list of upcoming meetings and events.
● 7. Additional Political Actions
Democracy and being politically active begins with voting. Elect candidates who will support and promote environmental protection. Also encourage others to participate in the political process. The Sierra Club has a full list of their endorsements on their web site: http://www.sierraclub.org/new-jersey/political-action
● 8. Landowners have POWER!
If the pipeline route is expected to go through your land, you have the right to say NO! Put up no trespassing signs. Call the police if the gas company comes on your land to survey. The Sierra Club has a lot of valuable information for landowners on their web site:http://www.sierraclub.org/new-jersey
Talk to your neighbors, share your concerns, and develop strategies together!! We must work together to protect our homes, communities, and environment!
